Is colonoscopy the right next step?
A GP may recommend colonoscopy after a positive bowel-screening (FIT) result, unexplained bleeding or iron-deficiency anaemia, a lasting change in bowel habit, or because of your personal or family history.
Previous polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and the findings from an earlier colonoscopy can also change when another procedure is due. Timing depends on your full clinical picture.
Dr Goutham Sivasuthan, Specialist Endoscopic Surgeon, reviews the referral, recent results, medicines and relevant health history before a procedure is confirmed. Many people can move straight to a procedure date. Others will need a consultation first, more information or a different specialist.
Colonoscopy, polyp removal and gastroscopy are all performed at Miami Private Hospital. Meet Dr Goutham.
What happens from referral to results
The same pathway Colonoscopy Brisbane runs in Brisbane, now with Miami Private Hospital as the procedure venue.
Referral and booking
Reserve a date online or call us. Your GP can send the referral through our secure referral form, before or after you book.
Clinical review
Dr Goutham reviews whether colonoscopy is suitable and whether you need a consultation first. We contact you directly to confirm the plan.

You receive written cost information and your bowel preparation, fasting and medicine instructions.
Procedure day
Your admission details confirm when to arrive at Miami Private Hospital, what to bring and how you will get home after sedation.
Results and follow-up
Your GP receives the procedure report on the day. We follow up with you about the findings, pathology and any surveillance plan.
Know the cost before you book
Gold Coast fees are the same as our Brisbane fees. If you have private hospital cover, colonoscopy and gastroscopy are no-gap for Dr Goutham’s specialist fee, so you receive no bill from your surgeon. A hospital excess and a small anaesthetist fee may still apply.
If you are self-funded, a fixed all-inclusive price covers the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist: colonoscopy $1,650, gastroscopy $1,350, or both together $1,950. We confirm every figure in writing before you decide.
See the Gold Coast colonoscopy cost guide for what each figure covers and the questions worth asking your health fund.
Your visit to Miami Private Hospital
Miami Private Hospital is an independently operated, Queensland Health-licensed private hospital at 24 Hillcrest Parade, Miami. Colonoscopy Brisbane handles your referral, booking, fees, preparation and results. The hospital handles your admission on the day.
Before you go
Your booking instructions cover bowel preparation, fasting, medicines and the time you need to arrive. Read the bowel preparation guide for background.
Getting home
Sedation affects driving and decision-making. An adult needs to take you home, and your admission information explains the no-driving period.
Facility details
Use the Miami Private Hospital visit guide for the address, contacts and what to bring. Clinical and practice questions come to Colonoscopy Brisbane.
A positive FIT does not mean you have bowel cancer
A positive FIT means blood was detected in the sample. Most people with a positive result do not have cancer, but the result needs a timely colonoscopy to find the cause. Polyps found during the procedure can usually be removed at the same time.
Bring the FIT report and any recent blood results to your appointment or referral. Read more about bowel screening, or send your GP the Gold Coast GP referral guide.
Common questions
Do I need a GP referral?
Yes. A current GP referral is needed for Medicare and for the clinical review. You can reserve a date first and send the referral afterwards, or ask your GP to use our online referral form.
Will I need a consultation before colonoscopy?
Not always. Dr Goutham reviews the referral and available records first. A consultation may be needed if the indication, medicines, health history or anaesthetic risk need more discussion. Self-funded patients have a pre-procedure consultation, which attracts a Medicare rebate.
Where will the procedure take place?
At Miami Private Hospital, 24 Hillcrest Parade, Miami QLD 4220. The visit guide has the hospital’s contacts and what to expect on the day.
When will I receive my results?
Dr Goutham discusses the initial findings with you after the procedure, and your GP receives the report the same day. If tissue or polyps go to pathology, we follow up with you and your GP once the result is back.
Can I have a gastroscopy at the same time?
Yes, when it is clinically indicated. Combined gastroscopy and colonoscopy is performed in one session at Miami Private Hospital and is no-gap for insured patients or $1,950 all-inclusive if self-funded.
