Colonoscopy costs on the Gold Coast

Colonoscopy fees at Miami Private Hospital are the same as our Brisbane fees. No-gap applies to Dr Goutham’s specialist fee when your cover is confirmed. Self-funded prices assume a valid Medicare card; pathology and the pre-procedure consultation are separate.

MIAMI PRIVATE HOSPITAL · GOLD COAST

The short answer

What you pay depends on whether you have private hospital cover and which procedure your GP has referred you for. Gold Coast fees are identical to our Brisbane fees.

Privately insured

$0

No-gap for Dr Goutham’s specialist fee for colonoscopy, gastroscopy or both, when your cover is confirmed. Hospital excess, anaesthetist and pathology charges may still apply.

Self-funded colonoscopy

$1,650

For patients with a valid Medicare card, the fixed prices include the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist: colonoscopy $1,650, gastroscopy $1,350, or both together $1,950. Pathology and the pre-procedure consultation are separate.

Public system

Medicare-funded

If you are eligible for Medicare, treatment as a public patient in a public hospital is free. Your GP can advise on this option and likely waiting times.

Self-funded fixed prices

If you do not have private health insurance, these fixed prices cover the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist. They assume you hold a valid Medicare card. Pathology and the pre-procedure consultation are separate; the consultation attracts a Medicare rebate.

Procedure (self-funded)Fixed priceMedicare item
Colonoscopy only$1,65032222, or 32229 with polyp removal
Gastroscopy only$1,35030473, or 30478 with intervention
Gastroscopy + colonoscopy$1,950Both items

Before confirming your booking, we check whether the procedure and hospital setting are suitable for you and whether you qualify for the fixed price. Removing polyps does not change the fixed procedure price. The pathology laboratory may bill separately; most bulk-bill through Medicare.

What insured patients may still pay separately

The surgeon, hospital, anaesthetist and pathology provider may each charge separately, even when the surgeon’s fee is no-gap.

Hospital

Excess

Typically $250 to $750 depending on your policy. Your fund quotes this; some policies waive it for day procedures.

Anaesthetist

Sedation fee

Usually no-gap with most funds. Where a gap applies it is typically $100 to $300, invoiced separately by the anaesthetist.

Pathology

Biopsies and polyps

If tissue is sent for analysis, the laboratory bills separately. Most pathology providers accept the Medicare rebate as full payment.

Consultation

If one is needed

A pre-procedure consultation attracts a Medicare rebate. Follow-up consultations with Dr Goutham are $0.

Health-fund cover and no-gap

Colonoscopy Brisbane is a no-gap provider with most major Australian health funds, including Bupa, Medibank, HCF, nib, AHM, Australian Unity, GMHBA, HBF, Defence Health, Teachers Health, CBHS and Westfund. We accept your fund’s payment as full payment for the surgeon’s fee when your cover and no-gap eligibility are confirmed.

Before you book, ask your fund three things: whether your policy covers a day admission at Miami Private Hospital, whether any waiting period applies, and what your excess or co-payment is. Record the reference number. See no-gap details by fund.

Get a written quote before you book

Call 07 3733 1551 with your GP referral handy, or request a date online and we will call you. Tell us whether you have private hospital cover, which procedure you have been referred for and any concession details. We email a written estimate for the specialist, hospital and anaesthetist fees. You can review it before deciding to book. It sets out:

  • the procedure and Medicare item numbers;
  • the surgeon’s fee and the expected rebate or fund contribution;
  • whether polyp removal or a combined procedure changes the price;
  • the hospital and anaesthetist contacts for their own estimates;
  • which figures are estimates and what could change them.

Cost questions

Is colonoscopy bulk billed on the Gold Coast?

Private colonoscopy is not bulk billed. No-gap applies to Dr Goutham’s surgeon fee when your cover is confirmed; other charges may still apply. The listed self-funded prices assume a valid Medicare card and include the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist. Pathology and the pre-procedure consultation are separate. If you are eligible for Medicare, treatment as a public patient in a public hospital is free. Your GP can advise on this option and likely waiting times.

Does no-gap always mean no out-of-pocket cost?

No. No-gap applies to Dr Goutham’s surgeon fee when your cover is confirmed. A hospital excess, an anaesthetist gap or a pathology charge can still apply. We set out these charges in your written estimate.

Can I know the exact total before the procedure?

The self-funded procedure price is fixed if you hold a valid Medicare card and are suitable for care at Miami Private Hospital. It covers the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetist. Pathology and the pre-procedure consultation are separate. For insured patients, we confirm the surgeon’s fee, your cover and hospital excess in writing. The anaesthetist and pathology provider issue their own estimates.

What if I need a different hospital?

Some medical conditions mean you need more specialised hospital care. If a different hospital is needed, the fees may change. We discuss this with you before confirming a booking. Your GP can also discuss public-hospital care.
